Review: Hellgoat - End of Man

Deep in the south there lurks a malevolent force, blood craven with ritualistic tendencies. Sinister acts and harmful magick comes alive in the dead of night, while almost every unsuspecting citizen is safely tucked away for the eve. Since 2004 Hellgoat, a ferocious force from Atlanta, Georgia, have released multiple demos, a couple of full-lengths and a handful of EPs that entail vile Satanic worship. During their live shows, their stage is covered in blood and animal carcasses, bringing to life the more disturbing aspects of black metal that bands such as Belphegor provoke. The time has drawn neigh for their latest EP, End of Man.

Within the span of the two brief tracks the listener will be dragged through hell and back, and that's putting it lightly. The experience is more-so relatable to being chewed up and spat out by demonic forces before having your bleeding body dragged across the molten brimstone of the very chamber where Lucifer dwells. Extremely demonic vocals and dark lyrics pervade every corner of this poorly produced, low quality descent into inferno, backed by a fiery tangent of razor sharp guitar riffing and intense blast beats that will drive your skull into the ground. There's tremolo picking done so quickly during the title track that it's almost certain the guitarist's pick melted into his fingertips! "Demonic Worship of the Horned Beast" actually takes a moment to slow down in it's composure, exposing some of the more palpable bass lines, but "End of Man" is an all out onslaught of demonic instrument bashing.

It's going to take a handful of listens to fully absorb what exactly is going on in these two tracks, as the content blitzes by in an instant. Each track is lavishly embellished with spellbound audio snippets to further enhance the overall sinister deeds provoked by such a glorious abomination. Indubitably the intensity of it all will blow the audience away, leaving them gasping for air by the ninth minute. End of Man is a Christ bashing, Satan summoning EP filled with the most blasphemous lyrics conceived; short but sweet and hellaciously delicious, a definite recommendation to all sacrilegious black metal lovers.
